Are you sure the wet spot was only water?

Could have had anti-freeze or oil in it, and that can drop you without warning.

Im in love with this bike but when it comes to drive it under rain is so hard to keep it going.
I had fallen today, I was cruising slowly, maybe 30/40mph when i saw a little wet asphalt i couldn't avoid. I did not break/accelerate/turn or else, just kept my trajectory, but the rear wheel (almost new Firestone 160-70-17) lost absolute grip and twisted my bike to the point of loosing balance.
Fortunately it only screwed my stock mufflers and the left heated grip (bummer) but my right knee and both of my elbows are a bit banged up, nothing I couldn't take without a pain killer.
A friend of mine (also a Bob owner) told me that he feels very unsecured under rain too, something I would never imagined on such a heavy bike.
May be i need to go 180-60-17?

Ser

is that a Bridgestone/Firestone Battlax BT021R 160/70-17 tire you're reffering to?

this is a radial tire. what do you have mounted in front?
are you running it with a spoke wheel and tube?
how many miles did you have on that tire in the time of crash?

I stand corrected on the 180 then... I had concerns about going wider, but looks like those are gone

Works that way on cages though...

I have a SE 180 rear tire and have ridden in many a rain (even with the wife on board) and have always felt pretty secure. Maybe getting some rain time under your belt will raise your confidence level.

Firestone tires???
I thought Dunlop was the standard Harley tire.
Are the front and rear tires a 'matched' set?
How's the rear wheel alignment?

no it doesn't. the exact same physics apply to car tires. the wider the tire, the more water it must displace to stay in contact with the road.

ahh that is not really true man... based on the tread pattern more than anything... i used to ride a 240 rear and my brother rocks a 300... THEY DO NOT MOVE IN ANY RAIN! the tire just floats on the little bit of moisure... sucks in all honesty
just to make sure... the guy that started this... YOU ARE NOT USING A TIRE SHINE ARE YOU??????!!!!!! can not tell you how many guys i have seen go down cause they used tire shine on their bikes tires... exp armor all!
