I'm a form over function guy myself. My bike had a two-up seat, sissy bar, windshield and bags when I got it but as you can see by my sig pic, a lot has changed.

Which reminds me, anyone need a sissy bar or bags? They came off my 95 FXDL and an be seen on my bike in my profile pictures...

Also comfort wasn't a major priority when I bought my bike, if it had been I would have bought one of the rolling sofas.
I think the reasons are as diverse as the bikes...

My Dyna is damn comfortable...

It's just personal preference...I like to keep it simple and not add extra weight...no wind screen, saddle bags, siisy bar, etc. I like the solo seat and don't want to ride two up. If I wanted to tour, I would have bought a bike already set up like a RK, Heritage, etc. Just my opinion. Nothin' against bikes that have all these items added.

I'm plannin' to keep my ride just as it looks now, with the exception of adding a fork brace.

Function over form here. I tried making my bike look better (like all my buds) but I just could not do it. I ditched my mids for forwards, drags for apes, etc. etc. It just wasn't me, and I felt right down clumsy on my bike. I came to my senses and put all my stuff right back on and have even made some "improvements". I've lusted over the FXDX since I was like 12 so that probably says it all....

I hardly ever use my bags, and they look pretty damn good i think. I just prefer without.

My backrest & bags stay on my bike all the time. I do like the look without the bags as well, but I carry too much stuff to do without them. The only thing that stays off regularly is the windshield. That only goes on for long runs on the highway, or when the temps drop down below the 40's. It's been in the 20's & 30's here lately, so my windshield is always on now too.

I have bags, a detachable sissy bar and a two up seat, they are all like new. A windshield would be nice for the long hauls but I've gotten by so far.

I ride everyday that is possible...which is most days...I prefer the bare bones look of my bike w/out the bags and sissy bar and windshield...but when we go on trips or take the kids for rides it all goes on, as soon as the trip is over off it goes.

I got my FXDP cause it was a bargin. Two year old '02 when I got it, only 750 miles on it for $11,000. But it was ugggly. Bags that looked like rubbermaid totes and rattled like a bag of bolts. They popped open every time I hit the railroad tracks.
The headlight was mounted ridgid like a road glide and didn't turn with the forks. One day I had enough and started pulling.
No bags, no wind shield. Pulled the engine guard. Mounted the headlight on the lower tree. Drag bars with Duce risers. Pulled the big old Cop seat off and mounted a small sprung solo. The shocks on it rode light a dirt bike. Tried 11in but it road like a brick.
Got 12in on it now. Put small backrest pouch on the left passenger peg bolt for glasses and gloves. Still looks a but funny but rides like nothing Iv'e ever owned.
Guess my motto is keep pullin stuff off till it stop rattlin or quits runnin.
