Default Are you supposed to cut this? (Removing stock seat on FXDC)

I'm trying to install my new seat, and I can't get the stock one off for the life of me. I've removed the screw, but the grab-strap is keeping me from removing the seat or anything else, and I can't figure out how to get the thing loose. Am I supposed to just cut the thing off (not like I ever plan on using it)?

I thought you could slide the seat out of the strap and then un bolt the strap. Thats how I did mine. If you are never going to use it, you could always cut it. I wouldnt put it back on for any reason...they look like crap.

Sweet. They gave me a new one with the new seat anyway, but I can't get the seat to come loose off the front and can't see what's wrong with that silly strap in the way. Thanks!

Your seat needs to move backward to come off the bike. I fought the strap for quite a bit then realized my sissy bar wouldn't let the seat move back far enough to come off. The strap is a tight fit when done right but it is possible. I use the strap to hold my gloves or glasses from sliding off the seat.

remove phillips screw in rear fender
slide seat back until the tab slides out from under gas tank
rotate seat 45 to 90 degrees to the side
pull seat out from grab strap
remove nut from fender holding on grab strap

reverse to replace.

No need to keep it if you state has no laws about grab straps or you have a sissy bar when you ride 2 up.

If you ride 2 up and have no grab strap and no sissybar.. well lets say if she falls off she'll probably cut you off for a long time if not forever.

I think most guys remove that strap the same day they remove the reflectors.
