Which models of ST will work for this mod? I am assuming fatboy, deluxe, and heritage, any others? Keep in mind I would want to be able to put on the nacelle, lightbar etc.

Chris:

I PM'd you a reply ... in a nutshell, Fat Boy, Heritage and Deluxe take-off or replacement front ends are your options.

Also note, Roofer is going with a FXST front end it sounds like.

As far as I can tell, about the only difference between the two is the lower triple tree for FL has tabs fore and aft that the upper sliders (variously 'cow bells' or 'beer cans' or 'soup cans') bolt to.

Here's one of the "role models" for my bike ... what it wants to be when it grows up. (LOL)

No! ... in fact, I need to get a bunch of powder coat done ... the whole front end, wheels, handlebars, the whole she-bang!

I really like that brown '64 FL Panhead ....

On the other hand, I really like this one too! The whitewalls on the old-style tires are cool with the shouldered tires ... a lot like car tires.

I looked at your gallery picture and since yours is an 07 there are a couple of issues, but they can be over come. I have pictures at home I will post tonight.

On the 06 and most likely newer bikes there is a raised boss on the lower tree that is not on the Softail FL trees.

If you don't space the bearing out the same distance it will not make contact with the race. What happens is the tree seats up against the neck on the frame. I used a hardened flatwasher that was .150" thick and it did the trick.

You can still use the nacelle, you just need to open the mounting holes up a little. The reason for this is the spacer moves the trees farther apart than they originally were. If you plan on running the light bar and or a windshield you will have to fudge those as well.
