JRK, what's a "girter"? Are you talking about the leaf spring looking setup? That is some crazy stuff.

 

ahh man that is my fav front end! it uses a single spring and has a twisting action as a suspension... by far my fav front end... my old man used them on bikes he built in the 70's... ill find some pics of htem and scan them... they are just AWESOME bikes but here is a pic of "purple Haze"... one of my fav bikes with a girder

 

Would the lack of a dampener make this front end very "pogo stick"?

Also, did anyone watch the video at the bottom of the ebay page, hilarious.

Although I like KansasHellride's bike and Kpreese's springer Dyna, I would not do it to mine. To me, the Dyna's heritage was 1958 and later when the FL line came out with a swing-arm frame. At that time, the bike had a hydra-glide front end (FL type). And then, later, when the MoCo followed the lead of their bike owners and introduced a narrow glide.

If I had a Softail or, better yet, a hardtail, I'd go with a Springer, Girder or Leaf-type front end ... I think they're all the height of cool. I just think that they are something of a misnomer, or anachronistic on a Dyna.

That's just me, I like to have something of a traditional approach ...

I'm not knocking those who go for an experimental approach or are trying something on the 'cutting edge' or so forth .... Sometimes they can really turn out an awesome look! [As for example, KansasHellrider or Kpreese ...]

Best of luck with your project, I'll still be interested in seeing how it turns out ... hope it is as successful as KHR's!

Thanks for the help guys. I figured it would probaly cost somewhere around the $800 mark for what I want to do with it.

Question though..

Could I re-use the same rotor since the front rim will be laced? And I need a new caliper, correct?

And the headlight.. could I reuse the stock headlight? I would imagine I would just need to get a different mounting bracket, correct? Anything that I can save money on, I will try. I'm hoping to sell the stock front end once I get everything together to off set the cost of the springer a bit.

I'm green with envy. I wanna do this to mine as well. Please let us know how it turns out. any pitfalls, etc. And post picks of the process.

 

I looked at KC international's ebay store. And it says that the springers won't fit a dyna.... Why is that? If the neck size is the same shouldn't it fit? Also I saw a bearing spacer kit that says it will work with dyna springer kits. Is that the reason? Or more of a 1" to 3/4" axle issue? I'm interested in doing it too.

 

Check Demon Cycles, too. They have a conversion kit for Dynas, VERY reasonably priced.

 

Adrian look at this website tryDNA.com the front end looks identical to the one your looking at but comes with everything you need , Theres a little more to it than whats shown in the video but with a little bit of grinding on the new front end and a internal fork stop, and the help of 2 hotties it will work. If you have any problems let me know and I ll try to help.
