Default 08 FXDC, wideglide trees, 21'' wheel, dual brakes; is it possible?

My planned winter mod is to get wide glide trees and a 21'' wheel. JDredfire gave me all part numbers that I would need to do the conversion (thanks JD!; the p/n are listed on the bottom of this message for people interested; note that the mods concern 08 bikes). Lately I saw various posts about dual breaks and I want them bad So my question is this: can I have wide glide trees, 21'' wheel, and *dual breaks* on my 08 FXDC?

Thanks!

Message from JDredfire:

All the part numbers that I'm giving you are for converting a 2008 FXD/B/C/L.

2008 Wide Glide Parts for Conversion:

p/n: 46317-07 Upper/Lower Triple Clamp Service Kit (includes
all clamp screws, upper and lower dust shields, etc.)

p/n: 41547-07A Front Axle (25mm)

p/n: 7813A Axle Nut

p/n: 41361-08 Chrome Front Wheel Spacers - Tapered

p/n: 41349-07 Sleeve Spacer

p/n: 43563-08 21" Front Wheel

p/n: 43104-93A Tire, Dunlop D402F MH90-21 BW

p/n: 41340-80 Inner Tube, MH90-21 Center Rim

p/n: 43939-89 Rim Strip, 21" for Center Rim

p/n: 9276 Wheel Bearings (25mm)

The front rotor from your FXDC will swap over to the 21" wheel. You will have to space the rotor out about .040", and the caliper .090" to center the rotor in the caliper.

To mount the front fender, you will need 4 each 5/16-18 socket head screws (stainless steel or chrome), 4 each 5/16-18 Hex Lock Nuts with Nylon Inserts (stainless steel or chrome), and 4 each 5/16 x 3/4" Aluminum Spacers.

I think your issue is going to be finding a WG hub which will except the second rotor.

You may want to consider getting a set of 3 degree raked mid-glide trees. Then get a pair of lowers from Harley for a Fat Bob or a V-Rod.

You can search posts by "Ratbasturd" for info on dual brakes using the Fay Bob sliders. Search post by "FastHarley" and "Jay Risk" for info about using V-Rod sliders.

Thanks jmpancoast. I saw the posts by Jay Risk and Fastharley. In a link that they provide (http://www.motorcyclemetal.com/gpage24.html) they are talking about a midglide/wideglide dual disk conversion. So it seems that what I am asking should be possible. Fastharley can you please enlighten us? A problem is that I live in Italy. So not sure how easy/expensive it would be to send the forks over.

a fatbob is a wideglide with dual discs...
my 21" wheel is for a wideglide and will accept dual discs...
I would think any 21" fatbob wheel will work.(aftermarket or something by harley)

Thanks rounder, so it should be possible. I sent a pm to Howard (Fastharley; thanks Howard!) who told me that although what I am asking is possible, he does not recommend it: too much power for a skinny 21 wheel. But I like the skinny wheel so I am considering other options with Howard. I think I will go with single disk and better break pads, braided lines, perhaps better caliper, etc.. I'll keep the forum informed about eventual mods.

It's funny after i posted this I was thinking If I was you I would spend the money on a better rotor and pad setup... Probably get the same or possibly better performance..(was thinking lyndall but Howard does know more of what is best!).

Rounder I'll keep you posted with whatever I end up doing. I can't wait to get the front end sorted: wide glide trees, 21'' wheel, street slammer bars, a nice headlight (I like the deuce one as in WS6's bike), and various performance mods (better front and rear end suspension and better brakes; I'll leave those up to Howard). Ah, and the 2'' tank lift I ordered from Jackyl...
