Forward foot controls or highway pegs won't work for me because of my short stature, but I also find the mid controls too close on my Street Bob. Is there a way to extend the mid controls slightly, lets say 3 to 5 inches?????

You don't say what year or model of Dyna you have so I can only address this based on my own ride, an '04 Superglide. I put the HD forward controls on my bike during the winter layup and searched for months for some assistance both here and on other boards to see if anyone makes a "reduced reach" set of forwards. The closest I could find were Kickback models made by Accutronix which moved the forward controls back 2". Unfortunately, they are only for Softails due to clearance problems with the front exhaust pipe on Dyna models.

After looking for what seemed forever, good old American ingenuity finally struck me and I made my own brackets which are being installed this week. A test with the brackets loosely bolted up were great. No more stretching for the brake or shifter and much more comfortable to work with, not to mention safer to ride with IMO. I got a piece of stainless steel from a local fabricator for all of $9.00, cut it to rough size and had at it with a drill press and bench grinder. Now it's not all fun and games, the brake rod and shifter rod have to be modified and just for extra insurance, I bought a different set of V&H Pipes to eliminate any possibility of clearance problems. Haven't decided to powercoat or chrome the brackets, I just want them installed so I can ride.

If you're interested in seeing a couple of pictures in progress, let me know here or PM me and I'll send them off. As far as I'm concerned, I've not only personalized the biker to my own tastes, but solved a problem that obviously I am not the only one with a shorter inseam.

Good luck with your project whatever it turns out to be.

Gary

My license says 5'5" and that's my story. As soon as I get a few more pictures and everything bolted down this weekend, I'll send you some pictures and post them here. The stainless steel brackets are a little on the rough side, but I plan on making another set which are a little more presentable, but that's for later when I get a little free time. For now, the rough prototype bracket will do just fine.

Default Reduced Reach Dyna Forward Controls

Okay for all of us that aren't 6'3", it is possible to install forward controls on your Dyna w/o worrying about stretching your lets too far. With a little ingenuity and a couple of hours work, here is what I fabricated for my bike to move the stock HD forward controls back an inch and a half. I took $9.00 worth of stainless steel plate, a drill press, bench grinder and miscl. hand tools and worked up these prototype brackets. They are a little crude as they are not the final pieces but it's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.

When the going gets tough, do it yourself.

Can you post a picture of the whole bike from both sides.

These aren't the most recent photos, but they'll give you an idea of some of this winter's mods, which are still going on. I've since added a chrome outer primary, a chromed cam cover, a little more color to the sides and the pipes will be the next things that are changed this week. About that time everything should be about done, it's getting to be too nice around here to have the bike in pieces all Spring.

ok, slightly different question. I've got a 96 dyna low rider with forward controls. I'm 6'1 and find the controls still to close. Is there any way to extend the other way (i.e. lengthen them?) I've seen kits - but only for softails.
