RE: Simple post regarding Tach opinions
To me the Bob was made for people who really are into motorcycles. People who like the look and road feel of an engine on two wheels. Definitely not your Gold Wing crowd. With that said this "Bob" mentality to me means being in tune with your bike and wanting to know what it's doing. Gauges are all about feedback and knowledge between man and machine. I'll probably end up going no tach and riding by ear, but I say the more dials and needles providing info on everything from oil temp, to engine speed, etc. the better. If it's the true Bobber look you want, and yes I do love that look, why even have a speedometer, or gear indicator light, or odometer. I guess it's all or nothing on gauges for me, as with pretty much everything else in life.

I'll say this about a tach. . . if you do get one, you will never regret having it unless you think it is ugly. I didn't want to ruin the look of the bike and that was why I went with the mount that I did. I can see it easily when riding, but it's pretty subtle and doesn't do anything to ruin the look of the bike.
The bike doesn't *need* a tach but if you feel like something is missing like I did, then you should add it. It isn't like you are going to add crash bars, a fairing, huge fenders, bags, floor boards and a tour pack ;-)

A tach is good. Otherwise you'll be reving until the limiter kicks in and that's no fun Every bike I ever had up to this Dyna had a tach and this was one of the first things I added, never been sorry. Check back a few months, there was a post floating around about tachs being "faggy" on a bike, pretty interesting thread, but to each their own.
