Helmet buffeting w/windshield
#52
I tried that foot test you guys were talking about, and that really works. Time to order some lowers, Rifle makes some that look like they'd go okay with the HD screen. My HD screen is tinted bronze as well, so that looks like it'll work out fine.
I put a fork bag on today, with no change at all in buffeting.

I got my Memphis Shades lowers installed. Things are definitely better. I still had to mess around with the windshield. I started out with it raked back as far as it would go, and that didn't help a bit. I've found that putting it as high as it will go, and as far away from the handlebars as it will go, and with the lowers snugged up against the bottom of the shield, the buffetting is much better -- but not eliminated completely. I'll keep messing with it but it seems to be tolerable up to 75 - 80 mph.
It's a heck of a lot warmer but come spring I expect I will ditch the shield. All that notwithstanding, for about 75 bucks or so the Memphis Shades lowers were well worth it.

With the lowers installed the buffeting is mostly noise, not so much head movement. A helmet liner and neck gaiter helps a lot with this. Good set of earplugs takes care of the rest. After riding around for awhile I would say that if I'm planning to go 60mph or less, it's better without the shield. Above 65 it's better with, much better as you approach 80.
