Default Hubs on laced wheels what kind of metal?

Stupid question but are the hubs on laced wheels like on my Bob just bare aluminum, no coating or plating or anything? I want to clean/polish them up a little...

Glad I asked before I put any metal polish on there. The far right side of front hub is looking a little ratty/oxidised probly the clear deteriorating. Not really all that noticable so Il just leave it alone for now.Thanks...

they are cleared but i was still able to polish mine... if you use a metal polish it should work though the clear and to the metal... i have heard both ways... i always media blast them when i powder just to be safe... but i have also pulled them apart and used a buffing wheel with great results!

Go to your local paint supply and they can set you up with a spray on acidic cleaner that will strip the clear in a matter of minutes, and clean the metal of any oils that may have worked its way into the pores. It is basically an aircraft paint remover. It works very well and I have painted entire motors with great results. PS. That clear can be stripped by an abrasive on a wheel but it takes more time and I don't believe they will clean up as well. I'm sorry but I can't remember the name of the product. Good luck.
