Question Tire Question

First off I searched the forum, too many non related topics came up, I found today that my front tire was cracking in between the grooves on the side of the tire, had the tire replaced, the only difference in the old and new tire is that it is not a Harley sidewall, we started with 34psi, rode the bike, the front tire felt flat, added 2 psi, rode again, same result, kept increasing the pressure till it was at 40psi, it that too much? it doesn't feel flat anymore, my manual says 30psi, no way to ride it with that little of pressure. On a side note the only link that I could find about the pressure was in the Sportster forum, I am including the link. Any advice is appreciated.

My tires (HD dunlop) specify 41 PSI (cold) on the sidewall. I inflate them to that level and they ride fine.

I think 30 is too low.

Yeah, 30 seems to low. I ride with 36-38. Rides good with that. I can usually feel if its getting low, so I just fill up again.

The pressures on the sidewall are for MAX tire pressure under MAX load. It's not the RECOMMENDED pressure. The correct tire pressure for any vehicle is found in the owner's manual, or on a decal on the vehicle placed there by the manufacturer.

Cool

I run 36-38 in the front and 40psi in the rear. '04 WG. Anything lower just seems mushy to me. Hope this helps.

I have metzelers and they are run at 40 front 42 rear... my old 19 inch dunlop was 30 front 36 rear.... If you do not have a stock tire anymore then you will need to change pressure for that specific tire...
You said the sidewall is not H-D. What does that mean? You have a dunlop that does not say H-D on it? If so, the sidewalls also could be a different firmness allowing for different feel when properly inflated...

The old tire was a Dunlop 404, and the new tire is a Dunlop 402, the old one (stock) said Harley Davidson on it, the new one dose not, I do not know if that makes a difference or not.

402 is probably a different side wall compound. This can easily be why it feels flat to you at the psi you ran before... worse case is you have an adjustment period for this new softer sidewall.... Run the pressure according to their advise

30 psi loaded...
