Default Tire Advice

Need to replace my original tires on my 05 SuperGlide. Almost 14K miles. Tread still pretty good but the profile is a little squared off and the ride is suffering. Clearly I am pretty easy on my tires but would like some advice specific to the Dyna series. I am looking at Dunlop, Michelin, Metzler, and Avons.

What would you recommend and why?

Recommendations on place to purchase since the dealership seems a little high?

Thanks

Todd

Have an 05 Super Glide myself and asked about the Metzelers just the other day on here. Based upon the feedback here, I plan on going with the Metezlers 100/90-19 on the front and on the rear a 160/80-16. The reason is I like the idea of a slightly wider tire in the rear as the original is a 150. Plus I hear from others that the Metzelers track better on the road (ie riding rain grooves ect) vs the standad Dunlops. I have looked on the net and the best prices I could find for both is right around $ 255.00. I will have an indy put the tires on for me when I pull the trigger.

I look forward to what others have to say as well.

Default New Tires

Anything but Dunlops- the reason is the tracking. I have never ridden with a set of tires that track that bad. I haven't heard any bad tracking stories about any other brand of tires. I just put Michlens on mine.

You got good mileage out of yours, I could only get a little over 10k on the rear tire each time.
I stuck with the Dunlops, made in USA, easy to get, price was right, $175 having the local indy install it and it only took 1/2 hour. On the 3rd rear tire for me and they work fine.

2nd choice would probably be Metzlers based upon what others here and on other forums have said. You do need to run a higher air pressure in the Metz which I heard is posted on their website.

On another site, a guy who is a tech at a HD dealer had a Metzler come apart while running it on the dyno.
He says he won't use anything but Dunlops.

metzler is your best bet... grip and longjevity it is all there, dunlops grip well but last about 5000 miles... pathetic!

I think dunlops are better because of longevity i just bought my rear tire today and my stock rear tire has maybe a little of 12.5k on it and i could probably go another 1000 miles on em. The avon and metzlers are a softer tire but are good from what i hear on tracking but only last 5 to 9k at the most. I just got the dunlop k591 160/70/17 for $138 and itll last me probably the same as the stock tire. Best bang for your buck if you ask me.....

I put Metz on at 2500 miles or so, absolutly hated the OE dunlops!

the bike tracks way better. I think the compounds are harder on the Metz and and im not quite into the handling of the bike, sometimes I go into a corner slower than I would with the Dunlops, I think the Dunlops are softer.

I liked the Avons I had on my 82 FXD. good on the freeway and great grip, may try avon again some time.

I switched to Metz 880's first tire change (front and rear) and they track straight! The stock Dunlops would wander over every groove in the pavement. Just be sure to put in the right psi, Metz require a higher psi than Dunlops (48+ rear 40+ front depending on load) I am very happy with the ride quality over the Dunlops.

I just had both stock tires replaced. They had about 12,500 miles on them and the front could have went another 1000 or so but the back one was pretty much a goner. They gripped really well but the tracking was kind of annoying.
I went with Dunlops again as I liked the mileage out of them and the grip was great so it outweighed any tracking annoyance.
