Default Harley Glug Glug.....

Pulled out Pop's 05 (carb) WG today to blow out the cobwebs then jumped on the 06 (FI) SB afterwards. Forgot how much of a difference there was at between the two bikes at idle. Has anyone figured out how to make these FI bikes sound more like to carbed bikes at idle. I'm talking about the prolific Harley glug, glug, glug, when at idle. Is there any way to get this out of a FI bike?? Do any of the tuners do it??? Any ideas?

I've asked about that as well ... a wrench at an indy shop I use sometimes said that if you have a SERT you might be able to lower the idle speed (it occurs to me that a dealer could install a map/reprogram for a lower idle speed, but I don't think they'd do it).

The reason he recommended against it is that at idle speed, the oil pressure would drop below recommended levels and risk not getting enough oil to the top end and pistons.

Frankly, that seems a little suspect to me as I've heard that the old Panheads and Knuckles operated at very low oil pressure relative to modern bikes (Evo/TC) ....

I don't know for certain, but that's what I've been told on the subject of FI idle.

My bikes been tuned with a SERT and it seems to idle idle pretty slow it has a nice rough cam lope as well and as far as I know the cams are stock. That said I really have nothing to compare it with since literally all my other bikes have been metrics.

Low idle speeds were ruinous for Evo motors. Much as I like the POCKET-ah POCKET-ah of shovels and pans, I keep my idle close to factory specs. This problem may have been solved on the TCs... don't know.

I agree the catch and bout die sounds great but u are starving it for oil by keeping idle real low on em.
