Well, I'm not so old that they didn't have front brakes! LOL Drum brakes, but they were there.

You guys don't get it. Canyonwlf is right. Most of these new 6 speeds are simply geared too high for anything other than blasting the interstate. Many riders will warn you that lugging your bike in 5th or 6th is more harmful than not shifting to them. Why do the lower gears "feel" better? The higher rpms generate a gyroscopic in the v-twin engine that causes the bike to resist flopping from side to side, allowing for more relaxed cruising. At least, that's what they tell me.

I was talking about riding on country/secondary roads when I said to just stay in fourth, y'all keep riding in fifth at 55 on a back road, I will be in fourth and living life, not talking about cruising, talking about riding, and apparently I don't have a secret, sorry to offend y'all, guess I should go back to riding my rice, intead I'll just buy a buell lightning, I'm sure I'll mess it up shifting it wrong too

Who ever pays the bills on the bike, is entitled to ride it the way they see fit. Shifting or not shifting into 5th or 6th is a personal matter of choice. No one's right or wrong.
The manual is only a suggestion/recommendation. So chill...... and just be happy you've got a bike to ride in the first place.
