Default New Tire!!! Amost killed mechanic!

Well I went to pick up the bike today from the local Indy after getting a new rear tire installed. He was raising all kinds of hell about how he hates harleys, they are out dated in technology,... AND, I was the LAST harley he will ever work on EVER!

Apparently, the tire blew off the rim and almost took his head off. He blamed harley wheels, but I figure he just screwed something up. Now thanks to me, we only have one mechanic in Valdosta that will touch harleys. Oh well.

Easy to blame a bike for his lack of ability.

I did that once with a golf cart tire. The bead wouldn't seat so i kept upping the pressure until the bead blew off the side of the wheel. the inner steel cord for the bead had snapped when the bead jumped the rim. hurt my wrist and couldn't hear right for a while. may have been over 100psi.

Me too. But I've heard he is a great mech... makes me think, since I'm the one riding the tire.

From what I understand, the rim/bead technology in all motorcycles is bout the same age since they all use the same basic design of bead? My guess is the dude was a little but hurt form his boyfriend leaving him the night before, what a tool.

Poor Mechanic blames his tools. I ran a call years ago where the tire blew off a rim and it blew the tire machine across the garage and the rim opened up the guys skull, right in front of his wife and 5yo daughter, he did not survive. So, do not try and put a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim

I would have informed him that it would certainly be the last time he worked on mine. **** happens.
