Default Tire Tire Tires

I have a 2004 Dyna Lowrider and I just got the state inspection done on the bike. It passed but I was told I will need tires soon. The bike comes with Dunlop 401's on it. I have no problem with the tires and they have worked well. I was looking for maybe some thing else.

The 401's have given me about 13,000 miles on them. I was looking at (3) tires:

a. Dunlop K591's

b. Dunlop GT501's

c. Kenda K673"s

The Kendas are the ones I need info on..

Kendra tires are cheap, korean made tires I think. I would not recomend them. Check the load capacity of the tires. The D401 have a high load capacity that is why HD sells them as OEM. You can also look at the cheaper D404, cheaper japan made dunlop but they also have a lower load rating. 13,000 miles is very very good wear so i would stick with teh D401.

I am having my tires replaced this Friday at the dealer. I got 12,500 miles out of my stock rear tire and the front one could probably go another 1,000 but I'm having them both replaced anyways. I'm going with Dunlops again since I got pretty good mileage out of them and the grip was good. The only thing that sucks is I am having to pay about $420 to get them replaced. Last year I waited till winter and got a good deal but I need a rear tire like right now and we are doing a ride up to Delmarva Bike Week the weekend after next so I just didn't plan ahead and now it's biting me in the wallet.

money is why HD does anything. What is standard on other bikes is an HD add on.

I doubt you are going to get better mileage out of any other tire than the 401s. I know from my experience I did not get as many miles out of the replacement K591 as I did the O.E. K591 which is usually the case with O.E. tires, even if they are the same exact tire the O.Es just seem to last longer.

I am not sure what tire size you run or want to run, but I do know the Pirelli Night Dragon comes in a 150/80-16 and 100/90-19 as the stock tire sizes. Jury is still out on the wear factor though, but it is an excellent handling tire in my opinion and my experience.

I am curious why Metzler or Avon is not on your list.

Yeah, Metzeler ME880s are great tires too, for a great price.
