For those of you using the old style simple green, it was a corosive problem if not flushed with sufficient water after use. Here's a clip on the product.

I had the same problem - used a aluminum polish/cleaner - worked good. Just wondering if there's something I can then put on the rim that would "protect" the aluminum? Sort of like a clear coat or polymer?

 

The best bet is to put a nice coat of wax after cleaning.
