Default Bolt snapped off! i need it out!

well... i am working on a chopper rear wheel right now that has a caliper/ pully set up from Exile cycles... the pully bolts backed out hit the caliper locked up the rear wheel... so much power that the sprocket kept spinning and ripped all 5 bolts in 1/2... i got 4 of them out... snapped 2 easy outs doing it... always fun to dig an easy out out of the hole you just drilled... well the last one (one i thought would be easiest) is not coming out... i have tried 23 diff drill bits, nothing wants to eat though this sucker! i have tired to heat it, nothing... need some tips, tricks, advice... you name it lay it on me! i want to get this sucker buttoned up today! ooh ya the bolt is broke off flush with the hub... sorry i did not take a pic. any tips?

See if you're able to dig a small groove on the surface of the bolt and then take a flat screwdriver or chissel and a hammer and see if you can get the bolt to turn as you pound on it at an angle. I got a broken bolt out of my supercharger once that way.

So you have an easy out down in the hole? If so you realize you can't drill though it. I try to break them up with a punch. But last time I mauled the metal all around the broken easy out. I took a carbide rotary file and the dremel. I tried to work around the easy out. It was a bitch. Once in awhile the file would catch the hardend easyout and jerk the Dremmel.
If you can't break it into pieces, start grinding.
After my last adventure, I will alway keep drilling till there is little bolt left and I can put in the maximum easy out.
Good luck

Try a left-twist drill bit. Usually spins them right out..
+1 on breaking up a snapped easy-out with a punch. They're very brittle...

Carbide end mill at a machine shop might work.

no the one that had the easy out in it i got out... the one that i have left is just a bolt... can not get a drill bit though it! no idea why... it is just below the surface to get a groove cut in it... i may have to put it on the drill press and put a new bit in then just slowly let it grove its way in there... we will see. was hoping for an old school trick that works... ooh well looks like i just have to do it the long way

Left twist high speed carbide bit. Get it started with a punch. If you have a drill press it should come out. Don't forget to oil the bit while you are drilling. Make sure the bit is a good tungsten one. Call Big Kaiser precision Tool in Elk Grove or CJT/koolcarb in Carol Stream. They may feel pity on you and sell you one.
