Default question about fluid change

I know its been beat to death. I'm changing my fluids this weekend. Question can I get everything from walmart besides the filter? Or should I go to a auto parts store? And if so, what are you buying? Mobil one? Please specify for oil, crank &amp\\; tranny.

Here's what I've been using:

Mobile1 15w50 in engine.
Mobile1 75w90 in tranny.
Mobile1 ATF in primary.

I get my filter/gaskets from Harley.&nbsp\\; Oils where ever I can find it the cheapest.

'04 Wide Glide:

Mobil 1 20/50 in the motor
Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny
HD Formula+ in the chaincase.

Works great. Actually, everything I've tried has worked fine - it's a big personal preference thing. I really like the M1 though. My motor seems quietest with it and it's not priced too bad.

Today was the first time in my life I used something other than HD oil in my bike. Based on all the reviews and testing results, and by my raving friends,
&nbsp\\;
I went with:
&nbsp\\;
Amsoil 20w-50
Amsoil 20w-50
Amsoil severe gear in tranny
&nbsp\\;
All I can say is.............WOW!!!!!! What a really noticeable difference!!!
&nbsp\\;
The bike is running smoother, shifting smoother, and is about 20 degrees cooler in the hot Florida sun. I think it even sounds better too. I am not exaggerating at all. I was very skeptical, but after this one day I am a true believer.
I am going on a 3000 mile journey next week so I will report back with a more informed opinion.

To answer your question - Yes...
&nbsp\\;
Some people use Mobil1 15-50 in the crank.
&nbsp\\;
Any 80-90 gear oil should be ok - I prefer Mobil1
&nbsp\\;
As long as the primary is wet, anything will basically work.

You oil all 3 holes. Running something thicker in the transmission will smooth out shifts significantly. I've used Mobile1 before without issues though am currently using AMS 20/50 in the engine, AMS severe gear stuff in the tranny, and HD Formula+ in the primary. It is OK to run the same fluid in all 3 holes but is generally believed to be better to run an oil specifically suited to the application in each of the holes.
