Rigid mount sissy bar on '06 dyna
Last night I went to the dealer and bought myself a set of rigid mount sideplates, short rail sissy bar and a short pad for my '06 lowrider
Getting the turn signal bolts out was a ridiculous pain, we had to deflate the tire and lift up on the rear end while another person worked the bolt out. But eventually, we suceeded in getting the turn signal bolt through the back end of the sideplate. Getting the forward (T45 Torx head) bolt out was easy and slipping the sideplate behind the fender supports was simple enough, but we ran into some confusion there. Between the fender and the fender support was a thick washer, held on by some sort of adhesive. At first we kept the washer between the fender and the sideplate, but that didn't look right so we put the washer between the sideplate and the fender support. But my dad called me at lunch and he was wondering if maybe we should've just taken the washer out completely.
The instructions that came with the sideplates were pretty bad. Does anyone know what I need to do?
Thanks

Once upon a time I put rigid sideplates on my 07 which I think were the same part numbers and instructions as the 06's. \\; I don't remember removing any parts as part of the install. \\; It was basically take it apart, slip in the sideplates and put it back together like it came apart. \\; I have since deinstalled and gone with detachables though.

I too had the problem you mentioned when I installed mine about two weeks ago on my 06 Low Rider. \\; I, however, put my bike on a lift and set the preset on the shocks to "1" in an effort to cause the rear wheel to drop low enough to allow the inner bolt to clear the wheel. \\; I was able to complete the install in the aforementioned fashion. \\; I, did not however, remove any parts during the installation on the rigid side bars. \\; I installed them between the fender and the existing bracket as shown in the instruction sheet. \\; Seemed to work for me. \\; And by the way, the rigid plates look vastly better than the detachable ones. \\; They compliment the look of the bike imho.

When I installed my side plates I didnt have all the much to take off. But one thing that made it really easy is I put the bike on my bike jack \\;lifted it up an unbolted the shocks, this let the tire drop down an there was plenty of room to get the bolts in an out.I didnt let the tire just hang it dropped about 4-6 inchs an rested on the floor.

My old pic.  \\;I swear the side plate is shinier than it looks in the pic.
 \\;
The fat washer in the forward hole goes against the fender,at least on my 06 SB.

Good Luck

You had the washer right the 1st time. It goes between the side plate and the fender.
+1 on jacking the bike up for the install. The wheel goes down enough so that the
bolts are not too difficult to remove. There is plenty of room to get your hand
between the top of the tire and the fender when working from the back.
