sprocket came loose and broken bolts
Had a dealer install my 180 rear tire and put on a chrome sproket cover. \\; about 800 mile later I heard it clanking so i went home to find out what it was. \\; Tightened up the bolts except one seemed stripped. \\; I went back to the dealer and explained what happed. \\; they were very nice, \\; pulled my bike in right away and found that three bolts were in fact snapped in half and the threads stripped out of the wheel. \\; Turns out i need a new wheel, \\; which they said that they would replace. \\; \\;I was told the there were wrong torque specs out for the sprocket, \\; which I gues this happened to a bunch of people, \\; because the wheel is on back order. \\; Supposed to be done tomorrow. \\; Whats worse is I have a Bike trip that i've had planned for about 6 mnths, \\; Leaving on thursdaymorning! today is tuesday. \\; Has this happened to anyone? \\; (not th trip, the loose sprocket) Or is the dealer  \\;just covering their a$$ because they messed up. \\; Happy the dealer is being plaesant to deal with, \\; sucks because I have to go on a trip in two days.

RE: sprocket came loose and broken bolts
My dealer tech chased the threads on my roadwinders with the old bolts and cleaned them before using the new bolts to prevent galling and what happened to you. Took him an extra 1/2 hour but he took his time and made sure then new bolts went into clean threads. Said that was standard procedure to prevent breaking the new bolts.

Jeez, I can't believe how many times I've heard about this happening. Dealer using the wrong torque specs, wrong bolts, reusing old bolts, no loctite, etc. . .That would scare the crap out of me just thinking of what could have happened. I am NEVER getting a pulley cover!

When I fitted my new rear wheel and even when I retapped the threads in my std front wheel's brake rotor mounting holes, I was amazed how much of a thread the tap cleaned out..
I'll be re-tapping all important holes whenever I get a chance from now on.... preferably a NEW or newish tap too, not one thats been kicking around for a while
