Default coating axle prior to reassembly

Would grease be better than anti-seize to coat axle with prior to sliding axle through bearings?&nbsp\\; I have seen lots of axle's rusted up using anti-seize, but never when coated with a good marine grease.&nbsp\\; Any thoughts?

either way............. grease will work. Just don't put it back in without lubing it first.

I am an industrial maintenance mechanic and I have to disagree with the grease being as good as anti seize. Anti seize is the best to put on you axle they use that from the factory for a reason if you have ever had to get a shaft out of a bearing that was not anti seized you would understand where I am coming from on this get anti seize you can get it at most auto parts stores and its worth the few bucks it cost.

The reason I brought this up is I have seen many axles frozen in the bearings where the factory did use anti-seize.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;I am wondering if the grease would leave a protective film better than the anti-seize.

no the grease will just slide off I have been doing shaft and bearing work for my careere for close to 25 years and grease will not keep the shaft from seizeing up we use anti seize at work and its much better than grease

There are several types of anti-seize compounds,&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;copper, alloy, graphite, etc..&nbsp\\; I have 4 different ones, just&nbsp\\;can't decide which to use for the axle.&nbsp\\; I use the copper on the sparkplug threads.&nbsp\\;

i can tell you from my own experience , antiseize! i t took me 5 hrs to get rear axle out to change a tire because i put pulley cover on and didnt use either putting it back together, it was not a pretty picture. i wash my bike a lot and wd 40 the ignition [dash]switch and cycle back and forth to prevent contact corrosion which i encountered also. hope you have good luck. just because wheel rolls on axle dont mean axle will pull out,trust me! ps new axle is 90 bucks at hd, antiseize is 3!and use the whole tube!
