Upgrading an EFI bike with a performance parts can cost BIG bucks. A carb will cost about $8.00 for a mild performance job if you do it yourself, it's gravity fed no electric fuel pump, no injectors to die on you, no extra sensors to crap out. I have one of each and I actually prefer the carb. 02 FXD and 05 FXDLI.

Your actually getting the benifit of the 3 phase alternator on the '03, and missing the extra wiring and sensors that allow people to ride with a cold motor easier. Never had an "altitude" problem with my CV carb. I would like to know how an EFI bike "warms up" faster than one with a carb...they just run better cold by themselves without fiddling with the enrichner...
Carb bikes are waaay cheaper to take past "stage 1"; depending on your mechanical or computor aptitude.

no probs with my carb. but i wouldnt mind having the luxury of creating your own fuel maps instead of just throwing jets at it

Either is fine. I love my EFI FXDWG. The biggest difference from my bike to my buddy's older FXDWG is I REALLY like my 6 speed tranny on the open road.

Another thing I like about the carbed engine is having a reserve. Not a big deal, but it can be a comfort.

i have always liked being able to do as much work as possible on everything i own.. anything with computers and lots of sensors and such is going to be harder to work on not to mention the cost.
love my 03 and wouldn't trade it for a newer bike if i could...
