No, 2.5 qts, Put two and a half in, ride it a bit, check it hot and top off if neccessary, (3 is if totally dry.)

3quarts is dry capacity.

When doing an oil change, even with the filter, you never get all of the oil out.

Usually takes about 2.5 quarts to refill.

Dealer says 3. On the other hand, it's difficult at best and impossible to get a reading when hot and letting it set. To much oil on the stick when you pull it out to even get a reading. I will try again to get some kind of reading. I did my 500 mile oil change and put 3 in.

If your dealer is telling you 3 quarts he is steering you wrong. 2.5 quarts for a wet oil change, 3.0 for a dry. Page 1-11 of my manual says "Use wet capacity for engines that have just had the oil drained. Use dry capacity for engines that have been disassembled, cleaned in solvent, and dried." I would go about 2.25, then run it a little, check it, and fill from there. If you go over 2.5 I would be very surprised.

Just talked to the service guy at the local HD shop, again,he stillsays 3 with filter change. I've put on 150 miles since the change and am not getting any blow out the vents. Are you referring to the two tubes in the air cleaner housing?

yeah, the air cleaner vents. I don't think I noticed the blow out for a bit. check hot oil level and see if you're above the high mark on the dipstick.

i never did drain any out, just didn't fill it up that full again!

Thank you all for not flaming me!

I just drained some out by eyeballing, I'm sure not a whole 1/2 qt. came out. I rechecked the level, cold engine and I can now actually get a reading on the dip.Go figure! It reads jut above the full mark. I will check hot the nextdriveI do. Thanks for steering me straight! Why are these stealers Dicks??? And yes, I will NOT fill that full again.

I overfilled mine the first time.

Use a turkey baster to suck out extra oil, if you take too much out you can just squeeze some back in.
