I noticed some noise and figure I got primary bearing issues. I did a search, but did could not tell if anyone had their's repaired on Harley's dollar after their two year warranty was up.

Any input?

John, do you have a piece of paper like I do that I had to sign,
and the HD sales also signed (when I purchased my 06 SuperGlide)???

How many miles???
The paper I have says that HD will pay to replace at 15,000,
as part of normal maintainance.

You may want to follow OilSlick, he's working with his dealer now.
No telling how his deal will shake out.

I purchased the bike used with 2000 miles, so no such paperwork. It now has 12000 miles.

 

I'm in the same boat as you, John(low mileage used bike w/o signing anything)
I will be following this post as I'm coming up on 10K miles....

 

Iam in this transition too with my 06 Custom 14kmi. Awaiting response via Balt HD. I will post my findings when I know something. My 2yr warranty ran out March.

 

My primary bearing went out at 24,000 miles, I was still under warranty. I now have 39,000 miles on the bike (06 street bob), all is still good with new bearing (Knock on wood) I bought the bike new in March 06

Kent and Les, I will keep you updated here in the thread as I learn more. I am going by to speak with the dealer if they are open today, I may just end up pulling it down and doing it myself. I don't want to pay them several hundred bucks for the repair. I would also like to learn a little about the drive components since I have yet been in the primaries.

 

im just curious, when i powdercoated my outer and inner primary covers. the bike had about 2300 miles on it..i took it all apart myself .. when i got to the inner primary cover i seen a bearing and i knew i had to remove it so i could coat it and not hurt anything in the oven so i took it to the dealer and told them what i was doing and they pressed it out for free and when i was done coating i took it back and they pressed a new one in for not much over 12bucks..would this be the bearing that everyone is talking about..i also have a 06 superglide. i,ve looked at the pics and it sure looks like the one i had the dealer press out...im just wondering if i have to worry about this posible problem in the future.. my bike has about 8200 miles on it now..

 

That sounds like the one.

Whether you have to worry about it or not remains to be determined.

The only reason mine went bad is because of a recentthread to which I responded. The post asked if anyone had a trouble-free Dyna. I gloated as I responded by saying 12,000 trouble free miles.

I guess I should have known betterafter a previous like situation.25 years ago, I gloated as I told someone my ex would never look like her mother. She also was out of warranty and ended up costing mea fortune.
