Default Anyone know if indy work will void warranty?

I want to get forward controls, and I'll likely do it myself if it's easy enough. Doesn anyone know what kind of work done by an independent shop would void the warranty? I figure extensive engine work like head shaving and cylinder porting would definately fall under a voided warranty, but slapping on some forward controls? I also don't want to get charged out the wazzoo for something that seems so simple. Stealer wanted $300 just for labor (!), but Iran into a guy that'll do it for $50.

Depends on the dealer.

Some "claim" using anything other than HD oils will void the warranty, although that's not true.

I don't see how changing to forward controls could adversely affect anything under warranty, but I'm not a dealer.

Some dealers will make a lot of false claims to get your business, others are pretty straight up.

Try asking them. If you don't like the answer, find another dealer.

Leagally, the only thing that voids a warranty is if you or someone else does something that causes a failure of a warrantied part. If your forward control was installed wrong & caused a transmission problem, warranty void as to that failure.

Exactly right! In fact, if your dealer tells you something you do will void your warrantee, ask them to put it in writing... They won't of course because they are wrong in their statement!

No it will not Void anything, it would be no different if you did it yourself.

Won't void your warranty unless they can prove the work or the part caused the warranty issue. And that's true whether you do it yourself or an indy does it. Installing forward controls is not likely to be a problem there. Save $50 and get some Kury forwards for $300 and install them yourself - it's easy.
