I don't quite understand why you wouldn't just go with the forward shifter vice just getting a longer "9 - 3/4 inch" heel shift lever.
While the design components may leave something to be desired, it might look 'jacked up' if you don't use all the parts ... maybe not. Post pics once you get it all together.
Good luck ... I really prefer floorboards on my bike and think you'll like them too.

And to be honest, I'm not all that concerned about how other people think it looks using the mid mount shifter. As long as it's functional and looks okay to me, I'll be happy.

Well, the simple answer is the shifter and related hardware for the FXDP won't simply bolt on to an 09 FXD. You have to modify the shifter mount and/or fabricate additional brackets. To me, that's what looks "jacked up."

How are you having this made? Aluminum or steel?

Yes, I may be interested in purchasing one of your brackets if you get more than one made and the price is right. That bracket won't looked jacked-up at all. I was talking about the things you have to do to make the OEM shifter hardware work.

floor board & shifter configuration
T64 aluminum - overkill probably - T64 aluminum is a very hard and strong aircraft aluminum. Very light, will not rust. Planning to use .250 (1/4") plate stock and with the rib on the back this will be very stable with no flex. The tube on the stock bracket just happens to be a standard 1" tube and that will be welded to the plates. Then on the stock bracket there are 2 plastic bushings part number 33703-01. See parts sheets Rene posted. I am planning to post a complete detail drawing of the bracket once complete along with photos. - any fabricator could then make it for you. Problem is one off items are expensive unless you know someone or can make it yourself. I design Jet Engines for a living so this is easy, with the exception of finding the time to do it. If there is enough interest I may make a run off 100 to sell. Dont really feel there will be enough interest to mass produce the part, if there was HD would have already been all over it.
The design of the bracket looks great! In order to make it possible for Michael to determine the exact location for the shifter lever axel in relation to the stock situation, I just took a picture of my bike and added it to this posting. Using the distances between the bolts on the crank case and the left hand front support you should be able to figure it, which results in the possibility to use the heel/toe shifter without any problems. Kind regards, René
