Old style full leather military boots, not the half canvas jump boots. They are not water proof but can be made so withthe use of mink oil. The mink oil will also help you break in a new pair, makes em' soft and limber. Thesecan be found by a civi at any surplus store these days for around a hundred bucks. I've been outa the service for over ten yrs and still wear the full black leather ones every day, even got married in em' after I put a good spit shine on em'. They are good for all weather and working conditions, I swear by them and havn't owned any other type of footware since I put my feet in em' over ten yrs ago.

Black Danner Winter boots... Great for ruck marching in the snow or riding in cold temps and they are water proof. Not that the navy or airforce would know what a ruck sack is...
The Air Force definately knows what a ruck is - my kid is AF Special Forces and rucks with Army all the time. Most of the AF is technical fields, but we do have combat fields as well.

I also wear Rocky Boots. I have a pair that are 20 years old and on my 3rd resole. They look good as new. Gortex,Thinsulate and are VERY comfortable. I have walked in puddles that were as high as the top of the boots and feet never get wet. Go to your local cop-shop and you will find them. I also agree about the HD boots which I wear for long rides because of the protection they give but arent worth trying to walk very far in them..........

+1 on Redwings. I believe they are made in the USA too. After trying steel toe and non steel toe I prefer steel toed. I wish they made a composite toe model in the style I like since steel toe gets cold and stays cold in the winter. The Redwing dealer told me they the local Harley dealer buys boots for their employees from him if that tells you anything.

I was only going to use my redwing work boots til i bought a pair of riding boots... Well im still wearing the redwings. They might not be the coolest looking boots out there but ive worn them in some of the wettest, muddiest conditions out there and they have never leaked a drop. So, i feel im pretty good to go on the bike. I never liked workin in steel toes anyway.
