making myself crazy over slip ons

RE: making myself crazy over slip ons
The best answer I’ve every gotten on this matter was,
“Put them on and if the bike runs good then your done,
if not take them off until you can afford any other updates.”
I’m also now a big fan of slip ons over a full system.
You still have the well designed HD header pipes
with the crossover, just a different muffler.

The dealer put mine on when I bought it new. Don't swet it to much before you know it , you will be doing complete stage 1 and then thinking stage 2 . OH sorry just thinking out loud.

When I bought my 06' FLHRCI in 06' I had a 95in kit and Vance and Hines slip on's put on right out of the crate and they just remaped it using the software at the dealership. It's running fine. They sold my buddy a $500 fuel management thing-a-ma-jig when he upgrated from 96 inches to 103 and his runs fine too. Just putting pipes on you should be fine without the fuel management system. It is a nice upgrade though but just like they used to tell you your engine was gonna blow up if you used any other kind of oil but HD or all synthetics were bad (until they started marketing them)..there's alot of misinformation or...partial truths out there.

Under that same logic, even if you don't touch anything on your bike you feel that you should add a new fuel map because you feel all bike run too lean from the factory?

I'm not saying that anything has to be changed.
I feel that the bikes when leaving the factoryare running, um let's say,'extremely efficiently' to get maximum MPG and because they have to pass every states emission standards.
Would a stock bike run better with a re-MAP.
Not sure, but I'd hazzard a guess it wouldn't run any worse or any hotter.

Just fitted some SEII Baloney cuts to my 07 FXDC...sounds much better and seems to run great, sometimes very slight poppingwhen I close the throttle. No Stage 1 so bog standard..even dealer said it will be fine..
Got these off ebay, they say not for road use so have fitted heat shields to hide the "naughty" writing Painted inside the ends with very high temp paint to give a hot rod look..

Agree, I am just saying there is so much misinformation in general that people don't know what to believe and the dealers will sell you any additional gizmos they think you will buy. My car would run better if it were richer just like the bike but everyone has to be somewhat responsible for their part for theenvironment.
I think the question is "If I install pipes and maybe a low restriction air intake do I need a power commander type modification." The answer is nobody knows unlessthey have specific experience withall of the modification that you are doing. The way I always go and the way I went this time was to buy a packaged intake and exhaust system, where the manufacturer has done the testing and can show the dynoed hp and torque gains and can advise if you need a fuel remap. I got the S&S Quick Setup Kit and S&S said I did not need aremap based upon my specific bike and their kit. They also showed a 10 hp and 8 ftlbs power gain.
Just to shed some more light on the topic, louder does not mean more power. Your engine is an air pump and the intake and exhaust sides of the equations need to be balanced for bestefficiency. You can install a loud exhaust pipe and end up with a slower bike.
