V&H FuelPak newbie
I installed the V&H FuelPak on my 07 Bob with a K&N 3909 and the SE Slipons. I noticed the bike seemed to run cooler in traffic, but still warmer than you would expect. Are guys using the V&H supplied input settings or is there a better "map" to go with for cooler (richer?) running? I didn't see anything in the tech forum on this. I am running the FP1232 setting values right now. Can I tweak the individual values, and if so what do they mean? Are they laid out in order from idle to full throttle?

RE: V&H FuelPak newbie
As far as from what I can gather, no one really knows what ALL of the settings do/mean, except for V&H. I found out, through their tech dept that changing one of the modesvalues down/up will help on decel popping/shut off the "cut fuel on decel" feature. Some say changing this modes value to 50 makes their bike run better than ever. Other than that, not too much seemsto beknown about them.

Minot,
Thanks. I remember making that change to the mode (I think it was 23) when I installed. I have it mounted on top of the electrical cover, sticking out of the seat about a half inch, so I may try to change that mode to 50 and give it a shot tomorrow. I am a NoDak transplant, living in CA now, so the bike is my primary transpo.

Bob, V&H's keeps the modes and codes proprietary. We don't know if that is for legal reasons (EPA related), or to prevent someone from copying their stuff, or other reasons, or combination of reasons. Anyway, I run the codes that are recommended for my setup. If you have issues with the recommended settings, sometimes V&H tech support will recommend changes for you but will not tell you what the changes actually do specifically. I, personally, think it's risky to try making changes on your own without knowing what the changes are and how they may affect the bike.
V&H's dyno's all of the bikes with all of the different combinations of pipes and different combos of stock ECM settings and HD stage 1 download settings, all with a Screamin Eagle Stage 1 air cleaner and then publishes the maps based on their dyno testing.

It's an air-cooled motor, plus you are running SE slip-ons. The only way you can cool it down any further is to put a full exhaust on it. Lots of my buddies ride touring bikes and they all complain about the same thing. Too damn hot as a stock bike. Once they put a true full exhaust on, it cools down quite a bit. Being that it is air-cooled, not much else you can do, other than a tank lift, but that is minimal.

Out of curiosity, in regard to Blade1127's post, how does a "full" exhaust system make an air cooled Harley engine run cooler than the same engine running aftermarket slip-on mufflers with the OEM headpipes?
Thanks,
Richard...
