RE: Need Ape Hanger advice
Got my 18's from Demon Cycles on Ebay. They came pre-wired internally with chrome controls, switch housings, levers, and brake resivoir. Cables were either 6"-8" over stock, I would have to check to be sure. Only place I could get them at the time was the stealer. $400 for the bars, around $300 for cables and brake line.

In addition to apes,
polyurethane bushings seem to work better with taller handlebars.

RE: Need Ape Hanger advice
Several threads on here indicate that 14s go on without changing out the cables.
As long as we're talking apes -- 14s are my next mod, too -- I've been wondering something. Assuming the information is accurate about not needing new lines up to 14, I have been wondering: isn't it possible to do the switch-out without having to go to the trouble of draining the front brake master cylinder as the service manual describes in the section on removing handlebars?
Tell me if I'm dreaming with the following steps in mind:
[ul][*] Loosen throttle cables[*] Remove right-side switch housing screws and take housing off bar[*]Remove right grip[*] Loosen clutch cable[*]Remove left-side switch housing[*]Remove left grip[*]Disconnect right and left side wiring at switch housing[*]Remove handlebar top clamp and OEM bar[*]Run wiring through new , fatter bar and put in clamp[*]Reconnect to switches[*]Attach grips[*]Put switch housings back on
[/ul]
Am I about right here? I mean, I'll do the whole drain the master cylinder, refill, bleed, etc., etc if that must be done, but it seems to me that it doesn't need to be that complicated if you're keeping the stock cabling and wiring. Anyone?
