my motor ticks when cruising at highway speeds is this normal? Is it the timing chain that I'm hearing?

This is an easy fix:

Buy louder pipes!! My ticking went away as soon as I put on the Short Shots.

 

Agree, I don't hear any ticking from my LR!

 

Mine ticks too, no matter what oil I run in it. I have come to the conclusion it's normal, but it still bothers me. Funny, but without the windshield, you can't hear it at all. Thought about taking it off, but then I spend the entire ride trying to hang on...so I live with the tick.

It certainly sounds like valvetrain noise, in my case anyway: lifters perhaps, not sure.

I'm right there with you all. I rode sport bikes for 14 years and never heard the bike like I do on my Fat Bob. I even took the bike to the local dealer and had tech listen to it before I installed the Big Sucker, PCIII and V&Hs Big Shots. I was afraid of warranty problems.

The tech told me to install the components and ride it- if the bike quit shaking and making noises, then there was a problem!

I took his advice and continue to ride and love it!!

 

I always have a sense to run when i hear the tick tick tick, just might be the count down to KA-BOOM!!!!!!

 

My key ring makes that noise in crosswinds.The tech was right if you don't hear noise pull over your motors not running!

 

check your air cleanre... when the hole unit is loose they will have a clicking sound... if you just grap it and try to move it that will tell you... a solid AC will not move at all

 

tick tick tick... I have been hearing it for 4 years on my 04WG I decided long ago it was electronic and related to the fuel injection (had to convince myself of something!), Running Syn3 for the last 2 years , still ticks. My only comparison is older carb models where I didn't hear the tick.. never been sure I am right and I still wonder about it but as long as she runs as good as she does I try not to give it to much thought. If anybody has a definitive answer on this I would love to know.
