I always put at least 91 octane
ive always been told to put the highest octane in bikes, is this true?
do you guys run aleast 91 or what ever is the cheapest?

Whatever premium is for sale at the closest station when I need gas. Today it was 93 at a mobile station.

 

Premium in all the stations I've stopped at in West Virginia have been 93 Octane. Other areas have been 91. I use whatever gas has the highest octane rating.

 

I do the same. Get the highest available where I stop. Say it's .22 more then reg and it takes 4 gallons to fill, that's a whole .86 (less then a buck) more to fill then using reg. and with getting a consistent 45 or more mpg's it's not that much more to give her the good stuff.

 

we only have 91 here in So. Cal. that's what i use. the higher the octane, the better the gas.

Sorry, Octane is a fuel stabilizer. It is a way of keeping higher compression engines from detonating, you may hear thiscalled knock & ping or dieseling. Gas is a volitile substance, when it is compressed the heat can cause it to combust, higher octane gas resists spontanious combustion. In the 60's higher octane gas helped some cars run 10/1 compression ratios and squeeze more H.P. out of their engines. When cars were at 8/1 in the 70's, 87 octane fuel was fine.

So if we want explosive power is lower octane "the better the gas"?

What to do? If your at 9/1 you can run middle grade or swap every other tank. I like to top off with High Octane when I put it away for the winter because I'm gonna put some additive in it and it's gonna sit for a few months. Otherwise, LOW OC is fine, like my one buddy sais "It aint gonna be in there that long any way". Buying fuel from a reputable source is probably more important than what the OC rating is.

If you like giving B.P. an extra 20 cents per gallon every time you top of, go ahead. Its like paying a hooker an extra $20 causeSHE has an orgasim, what do you get out of it?

UNLESS!!! you have a custom bike with a higher compression ratio.

 

The only ones I can choose from in Sweden are 95 and 98 ususally I'll go for 95.
The price per gallon today is $8.39

 

93 Octane here in Maryland. I try to run Shell in it, but I'm not overly concerned on the brand with the bike. My car I only run Shell 93, nothing else.

 

The highest octane they got which is usually 93. I tend to go to Shell also.
