Cables are a matter of choice. It depends on what you want. I put the cheapest 16 in apes I could find ($60.00) on my 06 bob last year. I went with regular stock black on the clutch cable and then a smoke black plastic coated braided brake line (braided is stronger and more durable). I extended the wires myself and found some cool looking chrome braided mesh looking wire cover fromthe local Obrian auto parts store. It has the same sort of appearance as the stock black mesh only this is shiny. I did all that to cut my cost (about $170.00 TT&L) because there are so many ways to go in terms of bars and whether or not you want to hide wires and cables or just wires or not at all. At the time I just wanted to go up and see if I liked theheight. This year I am spending money on cool bars and risers. My advise is this. While I have found this forum invaluable and unsurpassingly informative in the search for new ideas, nothing can replace talking face to face with a good local mechanic. Find yourself a small out of the way shop where the mechanics are approachable (most are nice guys under all that hair, ink, grease and dirt {most of the grease and dirt came off of my bike anyway.)} They will be able to show how to measure for your cables. Oh, and I know it is inconvienent but get the bars first and measure them on the bike for the new cables. Bars are different shapes in bottom width, total width andpull back in addition to the rise. If you don't get the bars first be sure to leave enough slack in your cable wire measurements for the possible differences. Great project. Good luck.

I went 8"over stock on my throttle cables and clutch cable and went to 54" on the brake line to get my 16" apes on the bike.Hope this helps, Dave...

I switched to a springer front end and put the 17" Todd's Cycle knuckle bars on mine. I wound up with cables that were +5" from my stock ones. Just get a good measurement with a flexible tape. And remember to account for turning and how you want to route the cables.
