RE: carb & cam performance mods?
hope this isn't one of those redundant questions that nobody wants to reply to again. i did try the search and looked in the other forums but didn't really find what i was looking for. maybe I'm not using the right terms in the search... or maybe i just got lazy and decided to ask my Dyna bro's.
any way this here's a bump for one last try.

RE: carb & cam performance mods?
I picked up my 203's on ebay for about $150, and the Mikuni carb is from Jireh Cycles for about $250. You'll get some increased low end torque from the cams and the throttle response from the Mikuni is amazing, plus all of the popping I used to get with my jetted stock carb is gone. The Mikuni also has an on the go idle adjuster so warm ups are much easier with this carb and you only need the choke for a few seconds if at all. You can also get a big bore kit on ebay for under $600, so I would look at doing all three if you can. I haven't dyno'd mine but it will leave my friend's 96" with stage one behind.

A buddy has a 100hp 88", with cams, carb, pipes and headwork, and its in the upper rpm band. Your stock CV will, properly jetted, support anything you can do with 88" and as far as cams, it's hard to buy stepping stone components unless you don't plan to step very far...I mean you aren't gonna use the same cams to warm up a stock 88 as you would use in a 95 with headwork and pistons...
All that said; I'd stash the cash until I could do a 95"; maybe settle for a stage 1 with some 0034HQ cams. I wouldn't bother with a Mik unless you went further. Be aware, though, there are a pileof parts/tuners that will cost you good money to screwup your CV40. I've used the CV40, 44 and 51 on different builds with great results. Not that the Miks aren't great carbs;I just prefer the operation of the CV and it's easier to get parts from HD where I live.

RE: carb & cam performance mods?
I've posted this on a couple of other threads. You should be able to get 85ish in hp with a nice torque curve with the following.
I'd check out:
Woods W6 or W7 (the W7 will be a bit hotter and perform in a bit higher RPM range)
Screamin' Eagle SE-204 (essentially the W6 but with a bit less intake duration)
Andrews 37G (essentially the same as the SE-204)
Kuryakyn TC-2
Personally I like SE stuff, though Woods has great cams. These would all be "bolt-in". If you do a big-bore, based on pistons (thus compression) and head work you chose, your cam might need to be replaced with something hotter and more suited for additional compression and larger volume.
Here's cam article that I came across that would be worth the read:

Cheers.
