Default What is Your Flat Tire Plan?

Friends,

I'd like to hear your strategy/plan for dealing with flat tires? How do I prepare for flats and what is a good way to deal with them on the road?

I'm new to road bikes and I'm not sure what to carry or who to call, etc. etc. etc. Are there any preventative measures I can take?

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Big Thanks,

Rick

New myself, but probably a can of fix-a-flat to get you home, then replace tire if a puncture on a radial at least. patch the tube on a tuber and nice inspection of the tire on a tuber to check for disbonding, especially on the sidewalls. Could be wrong about these tips, and sure I'll be corrected soon if that's the case.

I either can call hog or I always carry a few business cards in my wallet of bike haulers in the area. InDFW areaScott Harris is a good one.

What are you people doing up a 4 am on Sunday, or is it a late Saturday?

I carry a cell phone, HOG card, and I also have the extended tire/wheel service warranty.
Noticed you have tubed tires. Unless you carry a jack and several tools, you will need a cell phone to call for a trailer, etc. You can spend $1,200 + for some aftermarket chrome tubless rims then you can carry a plug kit and a small air compressor or get it plugged at a service station if you are on the road. Last year we went on 3,600 mile trip with no problems. One week after getting home, found a screw in my rear tire, used the cell phone. Dealer put on a new tire, tube, and liner at no charge.

I have never used fix-a-flat on a tube.

I used fix-a-flat on a tube once, the stuff came up around the spokes and did not seal the tube.

When I bought my new bike I put mags on it (see sig pic).

The ugly bag behind the back rest has a Cruz tool kit, tire plug kit, 12V air compressor and a Letherman multi-purpose tool.

I put a plug in it and ride on. Yeah, I know...Only works with tubeless wheels, which is the reason I will never own another bike with spokes unless I don't plan on leaving the zip code on it.

Call Hog.........Yeah right.......I've heard more 2-4 hour wait stories than I have speedy service ones.
