Just my opinion...

Pros: great, modern engine; really great brakes; cool sound...not potato-potato, but definitely Porsche-like

Cons: Ergonomics and seating position are bizarre; handling is not actually all that sporty (too much rake); not accepted as a "real Harley" by some

Night Rod Special is a great looking bike. Lots o' horsepower, lots o' braking. Rent one and see what you think. They're not for everyone.

Yeah, my brother has a vrod. That thing rides smooth and has some power. I'd consider getting one, myself if they weren't a bit costly but hey what Harley isn't?

My buddy has one that I've ridden a little bit.
The look doesn't bother me, but I didn't like the riding position.
I don't like the sound either. I suppose both those points are subjective and a matter of personal opinion.

The fact that it has a radiator doesn't bother me.
I wouldn't be surprised to see an Ultra Glide touring bike built with that engine in the near future. 120 horses with appropriate torque sounds like the ticket for 2 up and loaded down. I just wish they'd fix the sound!

V Rod is a sweet ride. Specially if it is modded right! I love the Dyna though. It's heavy, it's loud, got tons of chrome and flash. It's like driving a 55 Chev! It all depends on what kind of riding you like to do.

If you only ride 200-300 miles a year believe me you're going to regret it, probably sooner than later. I did't pick up anything in your post that indicates you're unhappy with the SG, so I would suggest that you forget about it (V-rod or anything else) ! Now, if you want to pay for another bike so you can "look" at it in the garage that's up to you....not trying to offend, just putting everthing in prespective.

No offence taken! These opinions are all good. What I wanted. I rode my R6 every chance I could and put 2500 miles in one season. As for not getting much mileage on the Dyna - don't know why not (probably 500 miles las season) - I was always tinkering with it and now it's set up nicely. I think I've convinced the wife to keep the Dyna and I'll move the controls back for her and I'll sell the sportster! Then I have room for the V-ROD and have the best of both worlds! I'm going to the dealer and see if I can rent one ASAP, I'm sure if I buy i'll get them to put that towards a purchase (at least I hope they do). So I'll go figure it out. Thanks again everyone - its amazing the feedback and great advice you get from forums like this.

Cheers.

Like everyone is saying, it really depends what you are after. IMHO, I would not spend any more money against a 300 mile/year hobby. The V-Rod is a sweet ride if you like pushing the speed and handling limites, but it doesn't sound like that's your style.

If I could afford it right now, I'd adda Night Rod Special, Nightster and Rocker Cto my collection, in order of preference...
I don't have anything to add to this thread because I am bias, but I would like to say your bike looks sweeeeeeeet ! Nice choice with the colors.

In my opinion, no thanks! Harley should stick with what they know, air cooled bikes. At the places I stop for a beer there would definitley be alot of snickers if one was to pull up! Get what you want but I agree, go test ride one.

Buddy of mine has one. I tell him V = Gay. V-rod, VTX, Victory, Vulcan, But that just me jerking his chain, I would never own one, but they are a very smooth bike.

Go ride one and then ride half a dozen other models.
