Default My back aches. Do Progressive Shocks Soften the Blow?

I've searched and several people comment on how well the shocks handle and how good the lowered shocks look (I'm not lookingto lower), but there is very little on how well the Progressive Shocks handle the pain of potholes. I'm looking at the 12" 440's. Am I gonna ride like a bagger without sacrificing performance - LOL?

Any opinions or comments?

the 440's are great. I just put them on my bob about 3 weeks ago and have noticed a big difference in comfort. I've got serious back problems and the 440s really did help out. you have the option to change the firmness setting on it and i keep mine at the softest possible setting. granted, like any vehicle, you'll still feel the potholes and train tracks, but it's a noticeable step up from the stock shocks.

good luck!

I had major back surgery 2 yrs. ago and was suffering with the stock seat,I switched to a mustang vintage and the difference was amazing.I have not replaced my shocks yet but when I do the 418's with the adustable dampening sounds good to me.I had koni's on a bmw with this feature and wish they made them for harleys.Plus as the shocks get miles on them you can compensate for wear by increasing the dampening.

Everything I've heard about them is good. Just be sure to get what is recommended by Progressive for your usual riding weight (i.e. standard vs. heavy duty). I just ordered some 412's heavy duty yesterday and they will be here Monday. I can let you know then. I also have a bad back and feel every hard bump at a level above people without back problems. With that said, I've really been happy for the most part with how my stockers handle the bumps. I wanted to lower the bike just a little though (1/2 inch) without suffering so I went with the progressives instead of trying any sort of lowering blocks or whatever.

I switched to a Sundowner Deep bucket two up seat and so far this year on several of my rides it has made a huge difference lower back feels great and the seat is comfortable.

If you are running a stock seat you need to change it out or no shock is going to help you....

What setting do you keep your 440s at? (5=stiffest, 1=softest) I bought them to have a stiffer suspension riding 2-up, more than the stock, not to have a softer one.

Dont you wish those guys at Progressive would put some indication on the shock what setting they are on?

Would be nice wouldn't it? You can tell by looking up under them though. Or, just take the supplied spanner wrench to them and crank them all the way in one direction and then count the clicks back to know where you are at.

Was/Is it the lowrider that has an indicator on the outside of the shock as far as what position it is in (stock shocks)? Don't know why they don't all do that. I rode mine for months before I even knew they were adjustable. Of course, I found that the dealer had left them in the lowest setting even though they could see I'm not exactly a small guy.

I have the 412's on the Green Machine and IMHO they are considerable firmer. I don't have any back issues but I would say they are not "More Comfortable" They handle amazing though. They aren't miserable but not made for comfort. Just my 2 cents.

You are exactly right,if you are sitting on a board like the screamin eagle seatI had ,shocks won't help much.
