Default Chopper time... got questions on street bob

Ok I am notreal clear on what some of the emission crap is on my bike so I am looking for some input. I want to clean upall the loose parts and what not on my street bob, you know like internalize the wires in black apes that I have my eye's on and get rid of what ever doesn't "need" to be on it.
so look at the picture and if anyone can tell me what this little barrel (follow the red arrow) looking thing is for and can I remove it?

It's the charcoal canister to meet California smog.
No performance gain if you remove it. If you do, keep it handy in case you have to put it back on.
And make sure you plug the lines so you dont suck dirt into places it doesnt belong

Must be part of the emission control for Cali. Don't have anything like that on 07 SB here in N.J. Did you buy a service manuel for your ride? If so, should tell you about it in there.

gotcha... that is what I thought. I will take a look at the service manual this week end, but I figured ask and ye shall receive.
I wanna take off everything that doesn't need to be there so I can get it lookin clean and back to grass roots... I guess you would call it choppin and I might do some bobbin as well.

Like a previous poster said, make sure you plug the vent line that goes to the throttle body. You can remove the line completly and intsall a cap from Harley. One of the other lines is a vent from the tank.
