Default who likes to 'do it in the dirt'?

just got the little woman a Honda CRX 80 dirt bike so she can learn the basics before turning her loose on the street (she's taking a riders safety course in June) while adding it to the stable i got to wondering how many of youfolks are into dirtriding and what you ride. i ride an '86Honda XR 250 thatjust won't die, but I'm thinking about trading it for a XR 500. i bought my first Yamaha MX 125 when i was 13 and been doing it in the dirt ever since.

the one in front is my 5 year old grandson's custom chopper but i just ordered a gas powered mini bike for the kids too.

I grew up riding Yamaha Enduros on my grandfather's farm in SC. It's the best for learning how to ride! I always had such fun on those little bikes.

Retired myself from the dirtbikes years ago other than a spin on my nephews 230 4 stroke now and then. I do it in the dirt on 4 wheels (Kawasaki Prarie)these days. I did just upgrade my son from a CRF-70F to a CRF-80F for his birthday in February, though and immediately had the same thoughtof doing whatyou are doing for the wife. It's the smallest "real dirt bike" Honda makes. By real, I mean more than 3 gears and requires a manual clutch. It's also a good bit taller than the 70 was. My wife has been mumbling about getting her own bike but she's never even been able to drive a stick shift car. So, she's only 5'0", so let her jump on the little Honda and get a feel for 2 wheels and shifting gears. I would say I owe my quick transition to my Harley after never owning or riding an "on-road" bike to years of riding dirt bikes. They are nowhere near as heavy and handle differently but you still get that balance you never forget (like riding a bike right?) and you learn to clutch and shift.

Good luck with it - I think it's a great idea.

Still race motocross but not as much as we used to. My son raced pretty hard for several years here in Texas but he went and grew up on me (job, girlfriend, college, etc.). Damn it!

A pic of me (44) and a couple of my son (443).

Me and my son now. We go when we can. I got a KTM 250 SX and he has a YZ-85. Don't race anymore, just go out and have fun. My daughter was riding for a bit on a TTR-125, but she ran over all the trees and there were none left to hit!![&:]
