Stock exhaust modification
Hey folks,
I've seen Hog's out there with heat tape wrapped exhaust. Is that on the stock Harley exhaust, or aftermarket? If it's aftermarket, has anyone done it on the stock exhaust? And the last question, how does the tape hold up in the rain, and washing it? Trying to figure out what I'm gonna do with mine, and I like the black.
Thanks

mine is done, stock pipes with heat wrap, then i cut heat shields for an added touch... if you wrap them also shoot them with 1200* black heat paint to keep them black or else they will turn white!

RE: Stock exhaust modification
i recommended Jet Hot coating on the pipes!!! brings down 300 Degree cooler. I have stock pipes with black wraps. I will post pics when I get home. But I will take the wraps off and Jet Coat'em then put the wraps on it. Reason why I want to jet coat the pipes cuz with thewraps, I feel the heat thats so hot to my theigh from the rear upper part of the pipe, just close to the battery box. Its hot as hell as you can feel ur skin getting sun burn when you idle! You'll be like hurry up the fawkin lightsand hit the gas to cool your leg off! Bitchin! Heat guards its another idea, but doesnt look good with my style.
The process of installation, first take the wrap from the end of the pipe that bolts to the engine, start from there wrap it all the way to the end, then take it off. Grab a bucket of water and put the wraps in there. Then slowly tighten the wrap around it then clip both ends with stainless steel lock ties. and let it completely dry. When complete dry, I use DEI Exahust heat Silicone - black color, Spray'em then let it dry. When its dry, install it back on. Then start the bike up and let it pipe burn the wrap, its normal for the smoke to come out, dont panic, it takes about at least 10-15 mins, best way to do it is take the bike out for a ride til the smoke stops. Thats it, pretty simple. The silicone heat spray helps prevent corrison and debris on the road and the water wont damage it. I've had it so far for about 1000 miles, so far so good.
