Default Question about stock mufflers

Hi,

I've a Street Bob 2008 but, here, in France, mufflers are catalysed, so i plan to replace them with US stock mufflers (no catalysed).

On E-bay, i' found some 64941-01 laydown mufflers (for Dyna 01 and later) but since 07, the ref is 64941-07 (on Ebay, there are rather rare and more expensive) .

Is there some difference between these two models? May i mount a -01 model on my SB 08?

I'm not sure why you want to bother replacing stock with stock. Do you want better performance but not really any louder? If so, I'd go with HD Screamin Eagle slipons instead of US stockers.

I want to replace French stock with US stock, that's not the same thing, believe me... come here and you will see what i mean

Furthermore, i want to drill the US one to make them just a little louder. I don't want to modify the original ones as, in France, you must be able to return to the full stock exhaust, just in case cops arrest you and force you to do so...

Makes complete sense to me, you want them to "look" stock, without actually "being" stock. You can try eBay, but just ask on here. I'm sure that someone has the original pipes off their Street Bob, that they will give/sell you. I would try and stay with an '06-'08 Street Bob, just to be safe that the mounting brackets line up.

That's exactly my point...

I've ask some vendors about the diffs between the two refs as there is not a lot of 06-08 refs. Waiting their answers.

Best regards

Hi jaco, yours has the active exhaust. So one muffler has a larger internal diameter to the other. I think the older pre-active exhaust ran with two equal diameter mufflers.Thats probably why the part numbers change.
Hope this helps.

I'd give you mine if, A> you weren't in FRANCE, and B> there was no chance I'd never need them again. I hope they never see the light of day again but I've got my complete stock exhaust system in a box in case I ever do. I would think you could find some takeoff's somewhere, though, cheaper than they could be shipped over there for.

In fact, i don't like the slash cut mufflers: i prefer the stock muffler look... Supertrapp sells muffler with this same look but i've read that their music is "special".

And thanks to Cornishman, i know why there is two distinct HD references...

Anyway, i'm gonna asking to Discount Biker the price of brand new 64941-07 mufflers as the used ones i've seen on E-Bay or other sites seems really overprized.
