Default Someone teach me how to shift!

Ok... had the Harley 6 months now... reformed ricer. Had my second fluids change today (3000 miles)with Harley Dino fluids in all holes.

Please tell me that a clunk in first and a clank in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th and a clack in 6th is normal! I figured the fluids change would improve it. It didn't.

Hey... I don't mind it but just wanna know it's normal. The tech who test drove my bike today told me I have a very happy scoot. But I forgot to ask him about the metal on metal sounds.

The gears in your tranny are engineered for a gvw of 1260lbs and torque loads of 100+ ft lbs. NO crotch rocket is engineered for that.....so they're "different" shifting, for sure. Like comparing a Miata and an F350.

Yeah. I always hear that clunk. Nothing unusual.

Different bike, different sound,my 07 shifts clean and quick but yes you can hear it.With a big twin Harley you have a non unit tranny which is not what you had before.I run syn 3 in the engine and primary and bel-ray or spectro in the tranny(synthetic).

Clunk is good. Clunk-Clank-Clank-Clank-Clank-Clack is a symphony...

Lots of opinions here about what lubrication to use. I use RedLine Heavy Duty Shockproof in my tranny and it shifts like butter. No clunking.

Maybe my old 4 spd is different, but aside from the clunk when cold I don't get clank in the other gears under acceleration, I does get "clanky" if I'm sloppy with the throttle and don't match speeds. The Harley trans is pretty robust, a little clanking sure won't hurt it!
