On my '06 I took off the battery cover. The band was held in place by 2 clips on the back of the cover.

man for some reason i think mine ws held on by 3m tape and clips... i took off the cover, unclipped the band, once off i heated up the band and pulled it off the backing clip... easy cheesy!

Yes, it can rip off, but I used needlenose pliers to pinch the tabs/plugs to get it off for when I re-install when paint dries.

Even if I weren't going to re-install, I'd be kind to it in case you want it back on for any reason.

On an 07, one phillips head screw on the bottom end of the cover, easy.
