RE: what is the BEST oils for H-D
Back in the day I put a couple of tablespoons of industrial molybdenum disulfide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molybdenum_disulfide) in the 4 speed of a '73 Shovelhead FX and never had a lick of tranny problems over 75K miles.
Not sure about the "modern" HD transmissions so I have not experimented yet. Any opinions out there for the new 5 or 6 speed transmissions and a couple of ounces of molybdenum disulfide?

I've used BMW oil on my Beemer for years, just getting into the Harley thing now, so I don't have THE most info on Harleys, but I've done alot of my own changes on the Beemer. The BMW oil is actually Spectro Golden semi-synthetic, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Spectro oil. I think they have a V twin "blend" also. So if left to my own to chose, I'd reach for Spectro again in a heartbeat. I'm also very keen on Penzoil motor oil, sort of a family tradition there (my dad ran a gas station, back when they were actually about repairing cars rather then donuts, coffee, and cigs) and he liked Penzoil products and had good luck getting ,iles out an engine, back in the days when a car rolling 100,000 was kind of a big deal.
One of my best buds is a HD dealer service manager, so I'll listen to what he has to say about it, when the time comes.
