I'd do it, but I do all my own maintenance. Like some others said, it's cheap insurance. Oil change intervals seem to vary depending on who you talk to also. The book, for my '04 Wide Glide says every 2500 on the motor and every 5000 for the tranny and chaincase. The MoCo also says the interval DOES NOT CHANGE no matter what kind of oil you run. I run M1 in the motor and change at 4000, but only because my dealer told me with their Syn3, it's OK to change at 4000. Syn 3 is not a full synthetic and M1 is, so I'm guessing that's OK. I know I've just contradicted myself, but I can't help thinking full synthetic is capable of lasting longer without breaking down than conventional oils.

$120 seems like a lot...it really is easy if you do it yourself, but if you aren't comfortable doing it, shell out the $. You might find an indy that does Harley's and is cheaper.

I do it only because the Dyna has a small sump. If a change was 4 qts, then I'd go the full 5k miles.

I change my engine oil/filter every 3k with M1 Synthetic. Dealer charges $75 for HD Dyno oil change and filter.

Okay, I'm a slacker; I change my fluids between 5,000 - 10,000 miles. I use Amsoil for the tranny, primary & oil. I check the fluids and top off as needed every couple thousand miles.

Two reasons why I wait so long (ok 3 for being a slacker): 1) It's too expensive to do at shorter intervals because I ride between 5 - 7 days every week, year round.
2) I've been riding for 35 years and I've never had a minor or major engine breakdown on any of my harleys with this type of maintenance schedule.

I'm sure a lot of you will cringe at my intervals but hey, it's worked for me for 3 1/2 decades.

I change mine every 3000 , don"t think you can "over change" your oil

I used to freak out if I missed a fluid chage at 2500 mile intervals...... changed em all. Check my oil before almost every ride, just like air in tires.
I now still check my engine oil just as frequently, but if it looks good and level doesn't drop, it gets changed about every 5K.

I do most all my service myself. It is less of a hassle to change it myself than to have someone else do it. Use M1 V-Twin 20w-50.

I have to agree, you can never over change your oil, though.
