Default Mods are done check it out!!!

Finally got all my winter mods done!! First off I have to confess I am not a wrench by any means, but I decided that if I am going to own a harley I was going to learn to work on it as well. I wanted to share the pics with my fellow members to get some feedback and also to share some of the things that didn’t go quite right so hopefully I can help someone else avoid the same mistakes. A couple of the things that I did wrong will probably make some of you experienced wrenches laugh, but if it helps someone else to do their own work I’ll take the abuse. Here is a list of the mods that I did. Back to front:

Service Manual (best mod I did)
New rear axle covers
Chrome pulley cover
Panacea taillight (also eliminated rear turn signals and covered holes)
Lowered rear with a set of takeoff shocks from a 08 Fat Bob
New sundowner seat (sometimes comfort takes a front seat to style)
Cylinder base cover
Chrome head bolt bridge
Lifter Block cover
Flush mounted fuel caps
Once piece riser
16 inch Buffalo ape hangers
Kurykayn Mirrors with signals (removed front turn signals)
Braided lines; throttle/idle, brake, clutch)
Progressive lowering springs
Chrome sliders
Billet fork slider covers
Front axle covers[/ul]

For the most part everything went pretty smoothly, but there are a couple things that I learned the hard way. When doing the front forks be careful do not drop the fork tube caps, they are fine threaded and reasonably delicate I dropped one folding over a couple threads. Cheap part ($17) but had to search four states to find one. Secondly, when installing the front fork seals be careful not to put one in upside down, they don’t work that way. Leaked like a sieve and I got to take it apart a second time to fix (once again cheap fix new seal and fork oil). Now the expensive mistake, I was almost all done and was doing the clutch cable took the trans cover off and installed the new cable and started tightening the cable on the cover. Got a little heavy handed and snapped off the cable in the trans housing (new cable $60, new cover $95 ouch). All in all it was a lot of fun and I got a great feeling of accomplishment. Thanks everyone on the forum, the reading and research I did beforehand was invaluable. The pics are below let me know what you think, also any other ideas would be great, I look through the parts catalogues and web sites and don’t see a lot that I feel I need. Next mods will be motor work, but not until after the warranty is expired. Happy riding

The bike looks good and props to ya for doing all your own... I have only done about 30% of the mods on mine, the rest I took to an Indy dealer.... afraid I would f@#k the bike up lol.

The bike looks great pwer pla! Nice work.

Even after paying for the minor F-ups, you're still money ahead by not paying for labor charges!
