Default Front Fender VS Inertia

Our stock fenders allow 1.5" clearance from the top of the tire and they really dont cover the sides. How much room should you allow for side clearance for fuller fenders. Is 4.5" to tight?

I would imagine that side to sideclearance would only be what was needed to allow the tire to fit. The tire would only change in dimension on the diameter (at speed centrifugal force would cause tire to get "taller" ) The tire would actually get narrower at speed. I ve read somewhere that if you were to allow 1/4" from the closest part of the fender to the closest part of the tire you'd be ok (might have been Metzelers websiteregarding tire fitment) I put a 21" 120/70 front on mySB and have about 3/8" and im not worried at all.

Harley mounts these things way too high off the tire it looks silly but may come in handy if you want to switch to a 21" wheel without changing the fender.I re drilled and slotted mine so it can be dropped but you can only get it about another 1/2" lower because of the shape of the bracket.
