Anyone ever cutoff the passenger peg bracket thats attached to the rear of the swingarm? Any possible structural integrity issues? I assume its hollow, so by lopping it off do you all think it would be fine just to put a cap on the open end, or better maybe to weld an end on it.
Your talking about the mount on the right side of an '01 FXD? On one of my brothers bikes we removed the left side brackets, removed the right side peg and made a square rubber plug for the mount hole. Hardley notice it...
Since the left side actually slides into the holes actually attached to the swingarm. I wasn't sure if it actually served as part of the swimgarm structure. Is it fine just to leave the whole thing off? If so, thats easier on my part.
Those holes are at the bottom of the frame; the swingarm bolts to the back of the tranny and is not involved...I had my bike down to the bare frame last winter. We're talking about your '01 FXD, right???
Go ahead and get your sockets out; you might want to save all the parts in case you ever sell (that's why we didn't grind off the right mount on the black bike). You will notice no ill effects other than a cleaner left side of your bike.....
