Custom Headlight Mounting Problems

RE: Custom Headlight Mounting Problems
Gents-
I found this posting, and, having the same issues with a headlight I recently purchased (the rear of it hits the neck), I obtained the mounting block mentioned earlier in this thread from e-bay. When I received it however, it had what I will call an "alignment dowl" behind the regular tapped mounting hole. Did anyone else have this, and if so, how did you get it out (or did you?) w/o damaging the part?
Thanks,
dohare

RE: Custom Headlight Mounting Problems
I had the same one with the peg. I carefully placed the mount block in a vise with a thick rag so it wouldn't damage the chrome, then took a pair of pliers and yanked the pin out. It came out pretty easy.
Also had to grind and file the block to fit between the headlight mounting tabs.
P.I.T.A. But got it to work. replaced the bulb with a Sylvania H4 ST lamp.

RE: Custom Headlight Mounting Problems
Thanks for the info Dynaflyer. I too had noticed that it doesn't fit nicely into the headlight mount- but the cast mount appears to be pretty rough inside and I was thinking about filing down the headlight instead of the mounting block. btw- how did you get the headlight apart? I am assuming that the lens retainer is threaded or something but haven't tried yet.

RE: Custom Headlight Mounting Problems
The blown up view of mine below is probably not the best illustration but it's the best I've got. The mount is similar to the one pictured below except mine has a little more rise and it through-mounts to the trees from the top so I have an acorn nut on the bottom. I orignally bought and installed a 4.5 x 7 bullet light from eastern performance that came with the mount I'm using. I later bought the 5.75 x 9 light that I have now from EP but elected to use the mount from the other light since the new one was very low and had no offset to it.
